Son of a vintage that experienced a short summer and a sunny and dry September, prodigal of considerable temperature variations, Mastrojanni's Brunello di Montalcino is a confirmation of what is a great cellar, for decades capable of punctually give high quality wines. And in those years, very few began a winemaking adventure in Montalcino. Today, thanks to an exceptional terroir and to men who have believed in it for decades, Mastrojanni is one of the most respected Brunello di Montalcino companies by connoisseurs. These places have been sparsely populated and little cultivated throughout the history of humanity: the earth is therefore virgin, clean, free of any pollutant that, at the hands of man, could have defaced it. In this land, in 1975, the lawyer Gabriele Mastrojanni bought the San Pio and Loreto farms and decided to plant the first vineyards which still partly produce our wines today. Others, before him, starting with the pioneer Biondi-Santi, had had the same experience and the area had clearly answered that the best vine for these lands is Sangiovese Grosso. Mastrojanni, wanting to make a great Brunello, planted almost exclusively Sangiovese. In those same years Maurizio Castelli, still our oenologist today, became the company's reference consultant. The Mastrojanni family, who lived in Rome and came to Montalcino occasionally, decided to put their trust in Andrea Machetti who offered to follow the evolution of the company full-time. Andrea started in 1992 and his passionate work allowed Mastrojanni to grow abroad and in production, perhaps beyond the initial dream of being a lawyer. Today a point of reference for the company and the Illy group. Andrea Machetti in 1992 took over the reins of the company to transform it into one of the most respected producers of Montalcino. Of few words, he now knows deeply every vine in the company, Andrea is always there, following every single detail and knows that this is the only way to make a great wine: to be at his service. Maurizio Castelli, world-renowned oenologist for his great wines, is like Andrea and like all of us an "anti-interventionist": he tries to let the wine make its own evolution, dictated by his nature. But it is clear that a winemaker is like a doctor, and he must understand when there is a problem and know how to cure it. His trick, like that of the best doctors, is "prevention". That is, working in advance, through careful and continuous presence in the company and systematic checks to preserve the wine. Thanks to the approach given by Andrea and Maurizio, Mastrojanni's wines continue to be an excellence of the Montalcino area

Crossed from north to south by the river Greve, one of the three rivers of the Chianti Classico, it is characterized by soils rich in clay and marl and a continental climate. These pedoclimatic aspects characterize the production of Chianti Classico of the Tenuta di Nozzole in power and elegance. Sangiovese is the absolute protagonist of the Nozzole Estate, where, in a unique ecosystem of Mediterranean maquis, it expresses all its potential. Used alone in the vintage, reserve and grand selection versions, it is aged in small toasted wood and in large seasoned oak barrels, a symbol of the Tuscan tradition, depending on the wine project. The Sangiovese is flanked by a Chardonnay vineyard called Le Bruniche where the estate's white is produced and two historic Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards for the production of the Supertuscan Il Pareto. A farm dating back to 1300 with 385 hectares of land, of which about 90 are specialized vineyards and 15 are olive groves, was purchased by the Folonari family in 1971. The Villa di Nozzole is located at the top of the hill which rises from 150 meters to about 300 meters above sea level sea level.
In the 1970s and 1980s, some ambitious winemakers began to shy away from the strict rules of Chianti Classico. Their dissatisfaction with the mediocrity of the contemporary Tuscan wine scene has unleashed a wave of creativity and experimentation with high quality grapes, clones and winemaking techniques. Querciabella was born in this specific context and Camartina not only laid the foundations for the high quality vinification of the company brand, but also started its rise to success. The flagship of Querciabella, it is one of the few historical wines, collectively known as Super Tuscans, which have considerably elevated the position and prestige of Italian wine production on the world stage.

Features: The color is an elegant, intense ruby red. The perfume exudes rich aromas of black and red berries including black cherries, blueberries, ripe plums and tamarind. Notes of ivy, undergrowth and freshly cut bark intertwine with hints of leather, sweet tobacco and licorice. The taste recalls pronounced flavors of ripe black fruit enriched with nutmeg and sweet spices.

Pairings: To be combined with substantial dishes such as red meat in stews, pasta, meat sauce, roasted and grilled meat, game.

Vineyards

The vineyards where the grapes for Camartina grow are all located in the immediate near the Ruffoli winery, on the hill of Greve in Chianti. With its marl soils and southern exposure, the Casaocci Sud vineyard offers the ideal environment for textbook Cabernet Sauvignon, here refined by lighter and more elevated notes. On a cooler slope, Poggerino's denser, clay-rich soils typically provide the structural backbone of the Cabernet, as well as the intensity and depth needed for successful aging. Sangiovese grows in selected vineyard blocks ranging from 350 m to 600 m asl with variable orientation, from south to south-west. At lower altitudes, marl and clayey soils give elegance to the wines while higher up the sandstones become prevalent, giving the Sangiovese a juicier vitality. Camartina is produced only in optimal vintages, while micro-vinification in small batches and extremely limited bottling guarantee artisanal excellence. A delicate but precise management of the fermentation in the French oak fermenters allows a beautiful integration of the tannins and the development of the structure. After the malolactic fermentation, the two cépages are aged separately for about 18 months in French oak barrels, up to 20% new, before selecting the best lots for the final blend. The wine comes out no earlier than 30 months after the harvest and, thanks to its longevity, is sure to be a contender for the best cellars.

SIZE / WEIGHT: 0,75 l bottles

ORIGIN: Tuscany.

GRAPES: Cabernet Sauvignon 70%, Sangiovese 30%.

ALCOHOL: 14% vol.

SERVING TEMPERATURE: Temperature between 12/18°C.

STORAGE METHOD: in a cool place away from sunlight.

SPECIFIC NOTES: Contains sulphites

PRODUCER: Società Agricola Querciabella SpA - Greve in Chianti (FI).

Agricola Querciabella

Giuseppe (Pepito) Castiglioni, industrial entrepreneur and lifelong wine lover, bought a single hectare of vineyard on a Tuscan hill and set about creating an estate that would soon encompass the breadth of the region. He dreamed of producing elegant and rich wines, obtained not only from native Sangiovese grapes, but also from those of his beloved Bordeaux and Burgundy. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc, just to name a few. Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni, Pepito's son, full-fledged investor and entrepreneur, converted the company to organic viticulture in 1988, making Querciabella one of the first wineries in Italy to make use of this practice. Under his leadership, Querciabella became known as one of Italy's best and most innovative winemakers in the early 20th century. Sebastiano's passion for animal rights and environmental protection has taken organic to Querciabella one step further. In 2000 Sebastiano introduced a 100% plant-based approach to biodynamics which prohibits the use of animal products in our vineyards or cellars. Querciabella was once again an innovator in the industry and an inspiration to the region. Today that single hectare in Tuscany is only a small part of the more than 100 hectares of Querciabella vineyards. And in these lively vineyards - flanked by n n the Chianti Classico region by oak woods and rolling hills, and in Maremma by the rugged beauty of an unspoilt Tuscan coast - all the grape varieties Pepito dreamed of now thrive in the rich, biodynamic soil that has become the most important ingredient in the award-winning recipes of Querciabella.

The "San Giorgio" by Lungarotti is an important red, with a good structure and with a considerable potential for evolution over time. It is considered the first real “Superumbrian”. It is customary to use this type of definition, with the name of the region of origin of the wine, preceded by the suffix "Super", to indicate wines produced from blends in which there are also international vines, in particular Bordeaux. The "San Giorgio" was born in 1977 from the skilful union of the native vines of central Italy, Sangiovese and a small percentage of Canaiolo, with the noble Cabernet Sauvignon. Thanks to the perfect balance between the three varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon does not dominate the other grapes, but integrates perfectly, enriching their aromatic profile.

Method: To produce San Giorgio wine, the Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Canaiolo grapes are harvested in mid-September. The vineyards are cultivated with spurred cordon, with low yields and on the most suitable soils for each variety. The Cabernet Sauvignon is planted on medium-textured soils, with a good presence of skeleton and limestone, which insist on a tuffaceous subsoil. Sangiovese comes from the Monticchio area, where it is grown on soils characterized by the presence of clay and sand. Fermentation takes place in steel, with maceration on the skins lasting 25/28 days. This is followed by an aging period of 12 months in barrique and at least 6 months in bottle.

Characteristics: The Red "San Giorgio" represents a successful interpretation of the marriage between local grapes and Cabernet Sauvignon. In the glass it has an intense and brilliant ruby red color. The nose is complex, with ripe aromas of red berried fruit, jam, soft spices and distant balsamic hints. On the palate it immediately denotes a broad and deep structure, with rich and concentrated aromas, which already show a good evolution towards elegant tertiary notes. The tannic texture is fine and the freshness pleasantly balanced. The finish is long and persistent.

Pairings: A great red to bring to the table with roasts, braised or game, game, spicy cheeses.

SIZE / WEIGHT: Bottles of 0,75 l

ORIGIN: Umbria.

GRAPES: Cabernet Sauvignon 50%, Sangiovese 50%.

ALCOHOL: 13,5% vol.

SERVING TEMPERATURE: Temperature between 12/18°C.

STORAGE METHOD: in a cool place away from sunlight.

SPECIFIC NOTES: Conti ene sulphites.

PRODUCER: Lungarotti - Torgiano (PG).

Cantina Lungarotti

A symbol of Umbrian winemaking excellence, Lungarotti has written the history of wine in Italy and in the world. The Barbi family continues the tradition. The origin of the name Decugnano is obscure and is lost over the centuries, but already in 1212 these lands produced wine for the clergy of Orvieto. They were the lands of the church of Santa Maria di Decugnano. In 1973 Claudio Barbi found Decugnano abandoned and immediately fell in love with it. The first wines came out in 1978 and the success was immediate. Did you know that? Decugnano dei Barbi produced the first Umbrian classic method (vintage 1978) and the first Italian noble rot (vintage 1981). The tremendous upheavals of geological eras, time and the hand of man have created a unique terroir in Decugnano dei Barbi. The soils are ocean beds from the Pliocene era. The vineyards have their roots in the sandy and clayey earth, among fossil shells and oysters, giving that mineral and marine character characteristic of our wines. The altitude of over 300 meters favors the right ventilation and an ideal temperature range to enhance the perfumes.
The best selection of the Badia Tenuta di Passignano boasts the best honor that guarantees and controls its Chianti Classico denomination. The grapes used for its winemaking is 100%pure Sangiovese. The area in which it is bred enjoys particular climatic conditions that impose a careful selection throughout the production process. A soft thinning of the bunches, the berries are selected manually at the table, with the aim of enhancing the quality of the product. This operation proved to be fundamental to guarantee a great potential for the processing of future westers. Alcoholic fermentation is then developed in about 10 days, following which the wines remained in maceration with the skins for a further 10 - 12 days. After the spinsing , the wines were immediately placed in Hungarian and in part French oak barriques to meet the malolactic fermentation, which is decorated spontaneously by the end of the year; After the labor, the wines, still separated on the basis of the origin of the vineyard, dealt with the refinement period in 300 lt and 225 lt Hungarian oak barriques, and partly also in 225 lt of French origin, for a period for a period of about 14 months. During this long phase, the different lots have been constantly tasted and controlled, so that they can be enhanced by the evolution in wood, and then be assembled in the final cut at the end of the aging period. The wine was then bottled and continued its maturation in the bottle for another 12 months.

characteristics: the Chianti Classico Gran Selection Antinori of the Badia di Passignano winery is of Color intense ruby red, at the nose it has notes of ripe fruit, at times also overrun, with great respect for the variety and excellent maintenance of freshness. Its fundamental importance in the history of Chianti is reported on hundreds of volumes, now kept in the State Archives of Florence, which give news of the vineyards of Sangiovese and the crops of the area. In confirmation of this, in 1983, in the surrounding land in Passignano a plant of millennial vitis vinifera was found. On the year of foundation of Badia there are discordant information: Pietro Aretino, in his biography of San Zanobi, says that the archbishop of Florence had founded the monastery of Passignano in 395, even if the monastery archives report only the year 891 . In 1049 Badia passed to the Vallombrosano order, a reformed branch of the Benedictines specialized in viticulture and silviculture. The chronicles of the monastery history report many suggestive events, including Galileo Galilei's stay in 1587-1588 as a mathematics teachers. Over the centuries, the monastery has been subjected to many restorations that have changed its appearance from time to time. The 65 hectares of vineyards, mainly grown in Sangiovese, extend on a soil rich in limestone rock with an average clay equipment at a height of about 300 meters above sea level.

Antimo, Fabivs de' Vecchis. Upon the Bishop's death, the Palace was put up for auction together with the vast agricultural properties following the Italian law on the assets of the Ecclesiastical Axis and purchased on 16 September 1868 by the Countess Eva Bernini Cerretani. On 31 December 1877, Countess Cerretani in turn sold the entire estate to the Castelnuovese dei Ciacci family. Following the marriage that took place in the first half of the 1900s between Count Alberto Piccolomini of Aragon, descendant of the lineage of Enea Silvio Piccolomini known as Pope Pius II, and Miss Elda Ciacci, the so-called Palazzo del Vescovo became Palazzo Ciacci Piccolomini d' Aragon. In 1985, with the extinction of the family, the property was bequeathed to Giuseppe Bianchini, already factor of the estate for many years now, who applied a totally new and avant-garde production philosophy for those years, developing and increasing production, quality of the wines and opening the export of our products in the world. Giuseppe passed away in February 2004, leaving the task of continuing his work to his children Paolo and Lucia.
