The Nobile di Montepulciano selection 'Asinone' by Poliziano is produced only in the best vintages and the number of bottles produced reflects the quality of the vintage itself. It ages in barrique for 16-18 months before being bottled. On average, the production is around 20,000-40,000 bottles.

  • Method: This wine, produced in the municipality of Montepulciano, in the province of Siena, is obtained from grapes 100% Sangiovese from a single vineyard facing south, south-west and located on rolling hills at about 350-400 meters above sea level. The vines, which have different ages, are trained using the spurred cordon method on soils rich in skeleton characterized by clayey-loamy soils. The winery is a family-run business, owner of about 165 hectares of vineyards, today managed by Federico Carletti who, taking over the reins from his father, manages in a few years to propose an innovative and modern production philosophy, becoming one of the most appreciated names in the whole Tuscany. “Asinone” Nobile di Montepulciano di Poliziano is produced with carefully selected and hand-picked grapes in small crates towards the end of September. The bunches, taken to the cellar, are destemmed and delicately pressed to then carry out the alcoholic fermentation, with frequent daily pumping over, in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature with a maceration on the skins for about 20- 25 days. Subsequently, the racking off is carried out with pressing, after which the wine is aged in French oak tonneau for at least 16-18 months before being bottled and ready for marketing.
  • Characteristics: Poliziano's Nobile di Montepulciano "Asinone" has a beautiful bright ruby red color. Intense aromas of red fruit appear on the nose, including cherry and black cherry, floral notes of sour cherry and violet, hints of aromatic herbs, including laurel, oregano and rhubarb vegetables, before veering on slight hints of cinchona, coffee and resin. In the mouth it is rich, intense, full and enveloping, characterized by a velvety but well-present tannic texture and good freshness. This from the Poliziano winery is a complex and refined red with a persistent finish and played on notes of coffee.
  • Advice and pairings: Wine of great longevity, already remarkable if drunk now, but which we suggest you leave to rest in the cellar to better appreciate the great qualities that will mature over time. You can let it rest in the cellar for even more than 15 years. A demanding wine to be used on the most prestigious occasions, it finds its best match with savory main courses and aged cheeses. It is worth experimenting with the combination with "tegamaccio", a lake fish dish typical of the border area between Umbria and Tuscany, which is particularly tasty and therefore suitable.

Poliziano Winery History

Poliziano was born in 1961 when Dino Carletti bought the first nucleus of 22 hectares moved by a romantic and passionate vision for his native land. The company has grown over the years to reach the current 170 hectares all planted with vineyards. Its name is a tribute to the humanist and poet Angelo Ambrogini (1454-1494), known as the "Poliziano". Federico Carletti, Dino's son, after completing his agricultural studies, took over the company management in 1980. He immediately made a professional and philosophical breakthrough by studying and working only proprietary grapes (“Estate Winery”). Concentrated on quality viticulture, modern but respectful of the environment and tradition, he immediately obtains a Vino Nobile of great depth and quality from the high-density vineyards. Federico in pursuing quality and excellence in his wines has always renewed the techniques both in the countryside and in the cellar. International varieties were planted in the 1990s, but at the same time the local variety par excellence, Sangiovese, which in the Montepulciano area is known by the name of "Prugnolo Gentile", was studied and exalted. Strengthened by the great knowledge of the potential of the Montepulciano area, Federico, for almost twenty years now, has concentrated on the maximum exaltation and expression of the same in his wines; letting typicality and naturalness express themselves. This is why he dedicated himself to the production of "cru" of great notoriety. The family passion for wine and the territory continues with Francesco and Maria Stella, who today act as Federico's fundamental advisers to interpret and face current and future challenges.
